Oh MS WORD
(Posted on 27-Jan-10)
The whole world loves a drama. Well dramas like this they can take. Here it goes.
- I am working on the release of my book and like a bad author the save button was not getting the attention it needed. It was totally neglected in fact! I have a UPS and run on Windows 7 so what's the issue, eh?
- Over night windows installed an important update and choose to reboot my system for me. That seemed OK this AM.
- Started working on my document this morning and realized it needed to be saved. (Fortunately it reloaded the version I had not saved which makes me even more likely to neglect the save button.)
- The save requestor would not come up... and something went wrong. Not sure how I did it but lost the document... most of it.
- Tried telling office to repair itself via the word app options dialog.
- Tried reboots, removing installed add-ins. Save requestor would not even come up with save as for empty new doc.
- Tried other office apps and they all worked.
- Tried getting office to repair itself via the installer in programs listing of control panel.
- Gave up on recovery because I was loosing far to much time and installed Office 2010. (I know... glutton for punishment.)
- OK... back up and running again in Office 2010.
Moral of the story is not one you heard from me first. SAVE EARLY, SAVE OFTEN. ... or suffer like me.
Oh... for those who hate the ribbon bar it is part of outlook now. I will say it has improved just the same. Will blog later on my thoughts on this new line.
(Now to save this blog post before something happens.)
